Katherine Spitz is a seasoned litigator who uses her breadth and depth of experience in civil litigation to help attorneys and their clients resolve their disputes short of trial. Prior to opening her mediation practice, Kate worked for an AmLaw 100 firm, for the Wisconsin Department of Justice, and for a public interest firm. This diverse range of experiences means that she communicates well with a wide variety of clients of differing backgrounds, from executives at multinational corporations to first-time litigants unfamiliar with the judicial process.
As a veteran practitioner, Kate has navigated the practical and procedural challenges that attorneys and their clients face in litigating disputes. She understands that parties and their lawyers invest both financial and emotional capital in litigation, and she is focused on using mediation as a tool to help litigants find creative, cost-effective resolutions to their problems.
Kate has litigated hundreds of cases through dispositive motions and has also taken numerous cases to verdict in state and federal courts. Her primary areas of expertise include condemnation/eminent domain, civil rights, commercial disputes, product liability/personal injury, employment discrimination, and tax litigation.
During her time at the Wisconsin DOJ, she also served as a supervisor over the civil litigation unit’s property and eminent domain section.
In addition to mediating cases in these areas and others during her litigation career, Kate successfully completed a forty-hour certification in mediation techniques. Kate earned her bachelor’s degree and law degree from the University of Notre Dame and is an avid football fan.
